However, please be aware that legal and clinical limits to confidentiality do exist. Your psychologist may be required or authorised by law to disclose your personal information without your consent in the following exceptional circumstances:
-
Risk of Harm: If your psychologist forms a reasonable belief that failure to disclose information would place you or another person at serious risk of life, health, or safety.
-

Primary Purpose/GP Communication: When it is reasonably expected and directly related to your primary care—such as providing brief, legally required progress reports back to your referring GP to claim your Medicare rebates.
-
Professional Supervision: Psychologists regularly participate in professional supervision. If your case is discussed with a senior colleague for clinical guidance, your identity is completely stripped and de-identified so that you remain entirely anonymous.
4. Digital Boundaries and Online Privacy
To protect your privacy and uphold strict professional boundaries, your psychologist will not connect or engage with you on personal social media platforms, nor will they acknowledge a therapist-client relationship in public spaces. Additionally, while we use secure platforms for email and telehealth, the inherent nature of internet communication carries minor risks. We use up-to-date security measures to reduce these risks and ask that you do the same when communicating with us electronically.

You have a right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions outlined in the Privacy Act 1988. If you wish to review your file or update your contact details, please submit a request to us in writing at info@thrivingmind.com.au.
